Morten Lauridsen - O Magnum Mysterium

Join us for this year's Christmas project!

Sing a beautiful classic with renowned composer, Morten Lauridsen

For this year's Stay At Home Choir Christmas project, we're delighted to be singing O Magnum Mysterium by celebrated American composer, Morten Lauridsen.

Whether you're a loyal 'Stay At Homie' or a first-time singer, we're inviting everyone to bring 2021 to a close with what Lauridsen describes as a "quiet song of profound inner joy".

You'll learn the piece over 3 weeks of rehearsals, including sessions with Morten Lauridsen. It's a unique opportunity to gain his insight into an ethereal seasonal favourite.

Listen to VOCES8 perform O Magnum Mysterium:

Echoing our final video of Adiemus, we'll produce a special video of Stay At Home Choir members' video clips for this project. (Don't worry, submitting a clip is optional!)

For Adiemus, we asked you to share your sanctuary. For O Magnum Mysterium, we're inviting videos which express what family means to you - whether that family is biological, extended, adopted, or found.

That might be a clip of a family reunion or special occasion, a place or landscape which you associate with your closest friends and loved ones - or for any pet parents out there, footage of your beloved furry friends! We'll use a selection of the clips submitted to create our final video.

Despite everything we've faced in 2021, it's been a milestone year for us as a community and we can't wait to commemorate that with you.

Our suggested contribution for this project is £16, but you can Pay-As-You-Feel, with a minimum contribution of £3.

About the Stay At Home Choir

We're an online music-making community, running virtual choir projects so that over 27,000 people from 75+ countries can sing with their favourite artists.

"I joined the Stay At Home Choir to continue singing during a time when quarantining and stress may have caused me to be silent.

What I didn't expect was that we 'Stay At Homies' would share our joy, frustrations, sorrows - our real life stories - building real connections and new friendships across the globe."

~ Stacie, USA

We provide exceptional learning resources so that any singer can learn our pieces confidently at home. We also host live rehearsals and one-off sessions with internationally acclaimed musicians, conductors, and composers. Our members become part of a friendly and thriving community, connecting with fellow music-lovers around the world.

"I had to quit my last choir as I now need places without barriers because of my growing disability. The Stay At Home Choir is my opportunity to get singing again after almost 5 years.

I sing off my sorrows and take part in many rehearsals. My family knows the funny sounds and the happy laughter from my room!

I have less fear, I'm part of a worldwide group of singers, and - above all - I'm able to sing again!"

~ Sabine, Germany

We've collaborated with artists including I Fagiolini, Gareth Malone, The King's Singers, Christopher Tin, The Swingles, John Rutter, Sir Karl Jenkins, VOCES8, Marin Alsop, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

"I have always loved singing, and I was a member of a community choir before the pandemic. However, I feel that I have learned so much more from Stay At Home Choir.

I suffer with OCD, and keeping my mind focused on something productive, challenging, fulfilling, and enjoyable has been so important.

The sense of achievement, plus the enjoyment and wellbeing from singing and being part of a community, means I never intend to give it up!"

~ Janine, UK
